It is important for us to take into consideration the age, experience and fitness of all the junior runners we have attending our sessions. Typically we will do this by dividing the runners into groups and shortening the distances. The important balance to be made is between individuals pushing themselves so that they progress and over extending themselves and risking injury or simply not enjoying the session. Enjoyment is key to progression at a young age.
We have the below table showing maximum competition distances and for our junior club sessions we would typically run somewhere between 2000 and 5000 metres although this is split into several shorter sessions.
