I decided to run in Shepton Mallet’s inaugural parkrun this week and met up with fellow Langport Runners Steve and Martin (who ran along with his son). A massive 344 runners also turned up for a very well organised parkrun. The run takes place in the picturesque Collett Park and there is ample parking available in the Mendip DC car park opposite the park. The course is 3 flattish laps of the park with only one little incline on each lap.

Unfortunately, there was a big bottle neck of runners at the start as you go over a small bridge.   There is also a point where you turn around ‘Joan the Cone’ (this week the cone had a picture of Joan Collins on) and you have two streams of runners running in different directions on a narrow path, which is not ideal.   The race Marshals were very friendly and encouraging and they needed to keep their wits about them as there were some tricky areas to marshal, especially as you run past the café and toilets, so overtaking slower runners can be difficult but remember, parkrun is not a race!

My Garmin measured the 3 laps at only 4.7km. They may need tinker a little over the coming weeks. However, I enjoyed the run and recommend you take a trip to this parkrun and the tea and coffee is only a £1.00 in the café.

Star performers amongst the 8 Langport Runners at Montacute this week were Jack who set a new PB and Liz and Sue for super age grade performances and Kyle for coming 4th overall. Joan was our only runner at Burnham and scored a tremendous 75% and topped the table this week!
