There was a bit of parkrun tourism this week with Montacute cancelled.
Nick and I headed off to Seaton's first anniversary run. Their theme was 'hats' and there were all sorts: a cake with candles, woolly ones, party ones, tartan ones, umbrella ones. A chance for me to crack out the Christmas Turkey hat, which proved surprisingly warm! There were thanks and presents to the most prolific volunteers and runners during their inaugural year. One lady had volunteered a notable 48 times. The only cancellation during their first year had been due to storm 'Doris' depositing the contents of the beach on the esplanade one Saturday morning. This week we were spared a beach start, but there were still a couple of challenging beach sections and the finish funnel was on the beach. Good Grizzly training. It is a very friendly and welcoming run.
Grahame, Katy and Andy ventured off to Shepton Mallet. Katy and Andy for the first time and Grahame for his second time and achieved a PB by a chunky 24 seconds. Good running!
After an impressive second place at Montacute last week, Kyle continued his speedy times with a PB at Longrun Meadow; 15 seconds off his previous best and topping our percentages this week. Well done Kyle 😀.
Coincidentally, on the 11th day of the 11th month, 11 runners arrived at Montacute ready to run. Oblivious to the cancellation, they must have thought the carpark was surprisingly quiet! Saturday was going to be the day that Neil officially stepped down from his role as Event Director. He now plans to make his final speech next week instead. Taryn and Martin from the core team have stepped up to share the Event Director role. Sue is now hoping to run her 100th parkrun at Montacute next week (18th). Fingers Crossed for a dry enough course. Please support her. This will also be Yeovil's 199th parkrun; watch this space for the theme for the 200th run.
