This was the last Parkrun of 2017 and not many of us turned out. Last minute Christmas shopping maybe?

Dave and I braved a very soggy Longrun course. A surprising amount of water had settled on the paths during the 5 days since their Christmas Day run. It was like running through a river on some stretches. Not unpleasant, though, as it was quite a warm day.

Charlotte ran her first Shepton Mallet Parkrun and topped this percentage table; and, over in Margate, Mike had the wind to contend with on the promenade.

There were some New Year's Day Parkruns too:

Those of us without sore heads on New Year's morning, made a Parkrun our first run of 2018. Not all venues were adding a New Year's Day run, but those that did attracted large numbers.

A sociable 10.30am start saw Sam, Michael, Martin and Martin's son Ben come along to a very wet Shepton Mallet. Sam came in 14th, topping our New Year's Day table; and Ben ran his very first Parkrun, with dad coming in just behind him.

With Solihull Brueton Park starting at the usual 9am and, six miles away, Birmingham Cannon Hill Park starting at 10.30am, Nick and I decided to attempt two parkruns in one morning. Both were well attended; Brueton 410 and Cannon Hill a massive 538. Consequently, both had extremely slow starts; perhaps 45 seconds until we moved. With icy, driving rain throughout the full 5k of the second run, I enjoyed the first one significantly more than the second one, but I was pleased we succeeded in completing the double.
