Lots of us out there Parkrunning this weekend at 5 different venues.
Montacute saw Liz completing her 100th Parkrun; a course she knows quite well with 96/100 of her Parkruns run at Montacute. A hit of adrenalin and her commemorative balloon assisted Liz over 70% and at the top of this week's table. Well done Liz! Sue, Maggie, Steve S, Dennis (running his 75th Parkrun) and Mark supported Liz and joined in with celebratory chocolate brownies after the run. Mark knocked 44 seconds off his PB, held since last October, and Maggie was only 10 seconds away from beating hers.
Over at Street, Martin also achieved a PB, by 8 seconds, and Karen, Wendy & Sarah were also all really close to their best times. I think we are all feeling the positive effects of the cooler weather. Street had British Trampolining Athlete Laura Gallagher as Tail Walker. Lottery Funded Olympic and Paralympic althetes have teamed up with Parkrun to Tail Walk at many runs over the next couple of weeks.
Cathy and Paul Parmenter ran well at Longrun with Paul running a PB and Cathy only 8 seconds away hers.
Meanwhile Ed, Nick and I enjoyed a bit of Parkrun Tourism. Nick was up in Solihull for the 31st time. Ed and I ran for the first time at Andover. This course is usually a 2 lap one, all on grass. With travellers pitching up on part of the park which is usually half of the run, the volunteers did a great job of rapidly amending the route. Ed started the run with me but after half a kilometre felt he needed run a little faster and sped off. However, the 3.75 laps gave him the opportunity catch me up and run a bit more with me; that was until he reached the finish funnel and I had another lap to go! It was a well organised friendly run. The organisers had recently made the decision not to allow dogs, which provoked some mutterings and a couple of boos. Buggies, however, were allowed. A popular decision with at least 10 buggies; one with a weighty load of three toddlers on board. Respect to that runner.
A couple of reminders:
Street's Facebook entry:
"Mark it in your calendars... 25th August is kids takeover day at Street parkrun!
All of the volunteering roles will be filled by juniors(with the help of the core team), and our very own Isaac Hooper will be run director for the day!
We'd like everyone to bring their children along and run/walk/jog with them. Let's make it a great day!"
And it is Montacute's 5th Birthday run soon:
"Please remember it's our Birthday run on 1st September, with "Back to School" theme - so;
- Feel free to turn up in Uniform!
- We have a junior Run Director who is threatening to keep you all in order! If you have any mini-marshals who can help that day, please volunteer their services!
- If your children are at a loose end in the last two weeks of the holiday perhaps suggest they write a bit for the Run Report as to their parkrun experiences?
- it goes without saying that we like Birthday cake!"
