Only 10 of us out Parkrunning this week, and all local runs.
Kate's half marathon training seems to be paying off, with another PB at Street. It looks like she ran with James and maybe he
out sprinted her to the finish? Katy, Richard and James were also part of the 156 runners at Street. This week's event was made
up of volunteers from the Mendip Triathlon Club.
Over at Ninesprings were Liz, topping the table, and Dave G, Amanda and daughter Sam.
With Flanci Nicky running the revised course at Longrun. This was the message from the Longrun team regarding the route change:
"ALTERNATIVE ROUTE Saturday 16th February!
Dear all
We will be running an alternative route this Saturday and probably for the next few weeks until we can get more bark chippings laid
on the muddy section!
The route will start at the barn and run 2 laps without the loop around the far attenuation pit. When you come around to the barn on
the second lap carry on to run the 1k loop by turning right at path just after dog : bike jumps. Follow path to river and turn right again
and follow path to finish. However finish is back at the barn where you started.
To maintain the muddy section we are setting a work party to lay bark on the path on FRIDAY 1st MARCH in the afternoon. 2pm start
meet by the gate near the lane that runs up to the house with elephants and gorillas in the garden. The gate will be unlocked to park
your car if needed. If you can volunteer, please message or post here.
Dave and I will collect names so I can arrange volunteer credit for you.
If people can bring wheel barrows, shovels, takes, trailers, tractors etc it will all help!!
Many hands make light work!
Further details of working party closer to the date.
Thanks all
Jamie"
If you are planning to go to Shepton Mallet on March 2nd, please take note of the message from The Shepton Team:
"On the 2nd March we want to do something for some very desperately needy people. I think we can all take for granted our comfortable
warm homes and enjoy sitting in front of a warm fire of an evening. There are many people locally, sleeping out in the cold as they've
become homeless. Shepton Mallet parkrun Team have got to know local man Star Murray who was himself homeless and now helps people
with his coach, cafe project. We want to collect food and toiletries for Star to pass on to people in need. Suitable food would be tinned food
such as Baked beans, spaghetti, ravioli, soup, rice pudding. Teabags, coffee, flavoured packet rice or any other food that won't go off.
Toiletries such as shower gel, shampoo, toilet paper, sanitary products would also be very helpful. Here is the link to the project. https://www.facebook.com/HelpTheHomelessCoachCafe/
There will be a collection point down at the Run brief area. Thank you in advance."
And finally, I would like to introduce you to Margaret Smith:
Margaret is a regular at Solihull Parkrun where Nick and I have now run many times. We join in saying hello to Margaret and feel
we know her. Margaret is at least 85 and runs with her dog whatever the weather. She was celebrating her 300th run when we
were there last week and today I see that she has achieved a PB on her 301th run. A lesson for us all to keep going and those PBs
will eventually come!
(2) Well done Margaret!
