Hot is the primary word in describing the Martock 10k on Sunday. It was a great race, just very, very hot. A field of 376 brave runners took on the fairly flat course and there were some very fast times – the winner finishing in 34 minutes.
Langport had a good show of runners, with Anne Kelly the star performer grabbing a PB and winning her age category – great running Anne. Ben finished third in his category and also had a fast time considering the weather, coming in in just over 44 mins. I was hoping for a PB but the heat held me back – I managed a 42:39 time and was happy with that considering the heat. I think everyone struggled with the heat but Nick, Mike, and Amanda came in under the hour. Emma, Roxanne and Shelley made up the Langport contingent, all finishing in great times as well. All in all, a successful day out for the club!
It was a great event and I thought the medal was fantastic. I’m new to this Somerset Series and I’m really impressed with the races I’ve attended, this being one of my favourites so far. I thought the support was also incredible – a really good turnout. Thanks to those non-running Langport Runners who came along and cheered us on, including our Mr Chairman. Always helps gee me on, especially when I’m struggling.
