This race deserves to be well supported it’s based at Charterhouse in the Mendips with plenty of parking a basic clubhouse with free coffee and most importantly homemade cakes afterwards for a charity donation. The weather was absolutely stunning , bright sunshine and warm for running. Recent rain meant the conditions were muddy especially at the top of Blackdown the highest point on the Mendips at 320m. The route is superb, almost all trail taking in the aforementioned Blackdown and its trig point twice, other highlights were Velvet Bottom, Black Rock, Dolebury Hillfort and Rowberrow Warren and great views of the Mendips, and the Severn Estuary. Basic aid stations with water and sweets were all that was needed for this 12 miler with 420m of ascent. I ran this as a fun run with friends and time for pictures and ample mud and puddle splashing. I’ve done this and the Big Cheese in 2023 both brilliant. The Mendips are not that far so it’s really worth supporting these cheap local races don’t be put off by the fact they are official fell races!
